In the nineties several
limited pieces were produced to commemorate specific events, such
as Games Day or the opening of the one
hundredth Games Workshop store. They also offered
a huge all metal version of the Thunderhawk Gunship in a presentation
case.
A number of "special editions" are
also made each year, which are available for the various GW Organizations
to use in their own promotions. They have become available at so
many different events that I have stopped trying to list them.
Many have later become available as direct sales items.
During the late nineties, GW ran the Skulz sales
promotion in several
countries. Customers could collect stickers that could be sent
in for a variety of items, including some miniatures that were
not available anywhere else. The list of available items varied
from country to country. Only the ones that were first released
through the Skulz promotion are listed here.
The Black Library also produced a number of
limited edition dioramas related to the characters in the Warhammer
Monthly comic and books .Both Forge World and
the Specialist
Games division
have also released limited edition pieces.
Pieces were also produced to stimulate
sales of the Warhammer and 40k army boxes in 1999. After 2000 Special
Army Standard Bearers and other items for the Army boxes were released,
many of which were later available through the Skulz program.
A number of limited release LOTR pieces were available through
the De Agostini/Games Workshop co-produced magazine Battle Games
in Middle-Earth. They are mostly available as direct sales items
at this point.
